A Guide to Timeless Dinnerware
Discover my favorite collections and find the perfect pieces to elevate your table...
Hello!
I’m sorry for being a bit MIA lately! I’ve been working on an exciting new project, and I can’t wait to share all the details with you soon. I’ve truly missed connecting on Substack.
In the meantime, I wanted to share something that was requested by a couple of readers who loved my "Guide to Choosing the Best Flatware." They asked if I could create a similar guide for dinnerware, and here it is!
First up: the Strata Dinnerware from Hawkins New York. It's by far my most-used set. The organic shape of each piece make the set feel whimsical, not rigid, and they’re made in Portugal with a truly stunning finish. I reach for the pasta bowl nearly every night for dinner. There’s something about eating out of a big, low pasta bowl that makes every meal feel special, pasta or not.
When in doubt, turn to Hudson Grace, whether you're browsing online or lucky enough to live near one of their stores. It's the kind of shop where I can easily lose track of time. They have the best of the best for the home, entertaining, vintage silver, and more. I also have to mention their candles, the HG Original and Aspen scents are my favorite scents. Needless to say, their dinnerware collection is equally exceptional. Honestly, it's hard to pick a favorite, so I’ll highlight two.

First, the HG Original Dinnerware Collection. It’s the “original” for a reason. If you’re moving or building a registry, this is a must-have. If I had to start fresh, this would be my go-to. Perfect for everyday use, it's simple without being plain, and it's the kind of dinnerware that will bring joy to you, your family, and guests alike. It has a comforting, timeless appeal—if you know what I mean!
Next is their Organic Ceramic Collection, which reminds me of my Strata set by Hawkins. I love the hand-feel of pieces with organic edges and a beautiful glaze. What’s great about this collection, like the Strata, is its versatility—you can dress it up for special occasions or keep it casual for everyday use. The high-quality ceramic is timeless, with an effortlessly chic look that elevates any table setting.

My favorite collection in this roundup has to be John Julian UK. I've been following him on Instagram for a while now, and his ceramic work is just so beautifully timeless. Every piece is crafted by hand in his pottery workshop in rural Wiltshire. His collection is a bit of an investment, but honestly, his ceramics are the epitome of craftsmanship! P.S. His gift guide is definitely worth checking out! You don’t have to buy a full set to bring his work into your home. A single piece, like a footed bowl or his incredibly clever and beautiful stacked mixing bowls with a pouring spout, makes a fantastic gift. I know so many people who would love to receive something like that!
A classic for a reason: Pillivuyt Dinnerware. We all know how I feel about anything made in France, and this iconic brand has been around since 1818. I believe many of their collections are exclusive to Williams Sonoma in the U.S. My favorite collection is the Pillivuyt Queen Anne Porcelain Dinnerware. The scalloped rims give it a quintessentially French feel, and I love how easily you can dress it up for more formal evenings. And, surprise surprise, it comes in a pure white glaze! I’m all about pure white—ivory rarely catches my eye because I think food looks best against a crisp, white backdrop. That said, I also appreciate some of the simpler Pillivuyt collections, like the Pillivuyt Coupe Porcelain Dinnerware. You really can’t go wrong with this brand; it’s a tried-and-true favorite for a reason!
